Did you know the Fort Zumwalt School District Transportation Department transported 14,000 students to and from school each day last school year? Drivers work hard to know each student on every route. They also work to know the parents and caregivers who meet our youngest students at the bus stop each day. It’s a layer of protection in student safety. With that in mind:
If a student needs to ride a bus other than their assigned bus, the change must be as a part of a joint-custody situation or must be to a permanent babysitter, a permanent daycare. Parents/guardians will need to contact the Transportation Department (636-474-8555) the day before the change is needed between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Advance notice is essential to reduce confusion and minimize last-minute changes that lead to safety concerns.
If a student is riding their regular bus, but needs to get off at a different stop, parents or school personnel will need to contact the Transportation Department (636-474-8555) no later than noon (12 p.m.) the day the change is needed.
Kindergarten bus riders who are riding with a sibling who is a 3rd grader or older may be released from the bus if escorted by that sibling. All other kindergarten bus riders will be released from the bus if a responsible party is at the bus stop to receive the student.
Safety is always our top priority. We appreciate the parents/guardians, school officials and transportation employees whose feedback helped us design these modifications. We will continue to improve communication, sending reminders over the summer and when classes resume. It’s our hope these practices minimize confusion and strengthen the safety measures we have in place.
